Mary Poppins!

My 1st and 2nd graders are singing "Let's Go Fly a Kite" from Mary Poppins. It's part of a mini-program we're taking into the community in March for MIOSM. (Music In Our Schools Month) I am showing the clip from the movie and...MOST of little precious young ones have not seen it!

Coincidentally, I recently received a Parent & Child magazine from Scholastic which contains a list of the "100 Greatest Movies for Kids!" And on that list at #3 is, that's correct, Mary Poppins!

Here are a few more of MY musical favorites from that list, with the number they placed them.
#1 The Wizard of Oz (1939)
#4 Beauty and the Beast (1991)
#9 Pinocchio (1940)
#12 The Sound of Music (1965)
#24 Singin' In The Rain (1952)
#41 Remember The Titans
#58 The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
#74 Cinderella (1950)
#81 Bambi (1942)

I would take some off their list :) and add these for the musical value and sheer joy:
Dumbo
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The Aristocats
Snow White
The Jungle Book
Oklahoma
The Music Man
Oliver

Many of my students wanted to watch the whole Mary Poppins movie and I hope they get to! And ... I hope they watch many more of these classics for the musical value alone!

There are plenty more but these are some of MY favorites! What are some of YOUR favorite music movies for kids?
